Student IT and CMS troubleshooting session on 2 May (Wed) 3pm @ LTR2

There is a Student IT and CMS troubleshooting session on 2 May (Wed) 3pm @ LTR2 for those who need help. But, before that, kindly read the FAQs attached below.

Students who come down on 2 May should bring their notebook PCs if possible. For those who do not have notebooks, they have to be prepared to log in via the LT's computer to demonstrate what their problems are.

FAQs

Campus Wireless Access

(1) The step-by-step instructions are placed outside the admin office at Block P level 4 (one set for Vista, one set for XP)
(2) The log in ID is the admin number, the password is "passw0rd" for the first time ("0" is the number zero). This is the same password for Windows login to our computer labs or NYP email account. If they have changed the password before and forgotten, just email Karen (Karen_KOO@nyp.gov.sg) your name and admin number for password reset. The ID and passwords are case sensitive.

CMS Access
(1) The login ID is the admin number (capital letter) and the password is the NRIC number (capital letters too) for the first log in. Subsequently, if students forget their passwords, please email Mr Ong Chee Ming ONG_Chee_Ming@nyp.gov.sg your names and admin number for a password reset.
(2) If students click "Begin Learning" and the windows did not pop up, ask them to try holding the "ctrl" key while pressing on "Begin Learning". If it still doesn't work, check if pop-up blockers, yahoo/google toolbar are present - they need to disable these. Firewall/AntiVirus software may also block pop-ups, so they need to set permissions for this case.
(3) If they cannot see their module materials, sometimes it is because they click on the wrong node. Click on the nodes that have materials attached to them. Some modules have materials hidden in the sub-nodes. They can expand the nodes to see all the materials.
(4) If the connection is slow, please ask them to fill in the form to report CMS issues to indicate the date/time, connection, machine particulars. This will allow us to investigate on a case-by-case basis. Please advise students that realistically access from home will be typically slower than access within campus. The form is available on the intranet.

Notebook Hardware/Software Issues

For Fujitsu notebooks, the students can log in to http://www.asiapac.com.sg/faultReporting/userreport.aspx to report their faults followed by bringing down their notebooks to Macs (near the Plasma TV) on Thursdays to troubleshoot with the vendor.

Hi guys,

How's your holidays so far. Hopefully you all are enjoying as much as you can after a tough and unbearable semester. Anyways, did you guys remember about the open house orientation that we all helped out? ok if you remembered, you also rememebered that CCA pt(s) will be awarded for it, but this CCA pt(s) will not be automatically added. You have to access the e-servies by the nyp main web or by this link: http://www.nyp.edu.sg/cf/SIMS/StudLogin/login.htm. (if you have problems entering the CCA pts, dont worry because i am also having the same problem. i think that they closed the system already. So we have to wait till after the holidays and look for AK about this.)

this sem was indeed tiring for us, there were some miscommunication or people not receiving important msgs. i came up with something that hopefully will solve this.

Ok this is how the communication system works. If either Yoges or Dhiviya receives a msg, both of them will inform each other about it and decide on whether who to pass down the msg. The msg will be passed down to the first person of the group, than the first person will pass to the next, so on and so for. once the last person of the grp received the msg, he/she have to msg back to the first person of the grp so has to ensure that everybody in the grp received the msg. The following diagram is an example.

The diagram is an example, the order of who to be first - last dont have to be exactly. I know that for some of you, you may find that smsing will be expensive. if so, i can recommend you 2 things, you can either call the person after you to relay the msg or by msn.

Final study sem will be coming up, i hope that msgs/information can be well passed down to everyone so that there wont be a miscommunication or confusion and left any of us stranded of what is happening.

Hm... looks down all the admin matters are done for now. Now i shall talk about non-admin matters.

Whose interested in going to the class steam-boat and/or chalet? We are thinking of organizing class activity as often but hopefully you guys will come. We are about to reach the final chapter of our poly life, so lets make full use of it before we leave and have no memories about it.

Currently we have thought up 2 activities, one is Chalet while the other is steamboat. But for what i can see, some of you will be busy or not interested. if that's the case, i hope that you can at least turn up for 1 of the class outing.

For those who are interested kindly tag on this board or email me and i will inform the respective people who are in charge of the outing. I really hope the following people will go:

NYPAC will be holding an annual party for Senior Citizens on Saturday 25th November 2006 from 9am - 1pm. This event is jointly organized by SHS and SBM this year and they have requested for student helpers for the event.

SCL will be sending 20 student helpers in total for the event. Students may be asked to accompany the old folks and to ensure that they are guided properly. They may also be asked to serve food or take charge of registration for that day.
